Dal Soup

Everyone loves a good bowl of soup. Wholesome and hearty, they are a quite healthy addition to a light meal. I've been looking for different types of soups online when I found this recipe. It uses different types of lentils and rice. The beauty of this recipe lies in the simplicity of the ingredients as well as the technique used. Quick and healthy is usually my mantra when making food. And this recipe is just that. Takes no time, and is lovely to have.

This recipe uses simple spices like cumin, peppercorns and a clove or two of garlic. The slow roasting of the lentils and these spices really brings up the flavors till yet dormant in them. This mix is pressure cooked and blended. Also, this would double up really well as baby food.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • 1 tsp Red Lentils (Masoor Dal)
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp Moong Dal
  • 1 tsp Toor Dal
  • 1 tsp Black Masoor
  • 1 tsp Rice
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • 1/2 tsp Jeera
  • 2-3 Peppercorns
  • 2-3 cloves of Garlic
Procedure
  • Wash all the dals and rice thoroughly and keep aside.
  • In a pressure cooker, add the ghee and heat it slightly.
  • Add the jeera and let it crackle.
  • Add the peppercorns and garlic.
  • Now add the dal-rice mixture.
  • Saute on low flame for about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add some water and salt as per taste.
  • Pressure cook for about 15 minutes.
  • Blend the cooked dal rice slush.
  • Soup is ready to be served!
