Broken wheat, or daliya is a common Indian breakfast. Quick and easy to make, it is also wholesome and healthy. I'm presenting a different way of making the same old daliya. The new twist I've added is custard powder. Not only does the custard powder add flavour, it also makes the daliya more creamy. And the best part is that this can be prepared at night and served in the morning. It can be had just out of the fridge or can be heated up a little in the microwave.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Broken Wheat or Daliya
- 2 Cups Milk
- 2 Tbsp Custard Powder
- 3 Tbsp Sugar
- Fruits and Nuts of choice
Method
- Wash the daliya thoroughly with water.
- Add 1 and a half cups to a pan and bring to boil. Now add the daliya to it. Let this cook on a low flame for 5-6 minutes.
- Meanwhile, to the remaining half cup of milk, add the custard powder and mix. Ensure that the milk is cold, otherwise the powder will not dissolve properly.
- Add the custard powder milk mixture to the pan of daliya. Stir.
- The daliya will thicken up. Add some water is the mixture becomes too thick.
- Cook for ten more minutes.
- Add sugar.
- Let it cool completely before refrigerating. If not refrigerating, let it sit for at least an hour before serving.
- Add the fruits and nuts of choice and enjoy your bowl of deliciousness!
Notes
- Increase or decrease the sugar as per liking.
- Some vanilla extract can also be added for a better flavour.
